Nylon Netting for Railings: A Practical and Safe Choice for Outdoor Spaces

The twisted-knotted nylon netting selections that we have available at Gourock all have really great multipurpose uses, making them very efficient and dependable netting solutions for many different containment and exclusion applications. Square mesh nylon netting is a very user-friendly material that is easy to work with, allowing for it to be installed successfully within a huge variety of unique spaces and areas. One of these types of uses is as containment and exclusion netting underneath railings on decks and patios – as well as under railings that surround lawns, gardens, lofts, stairs, sailboats, and other typical locations. Utilizing a layer of nylon protective netting underneath a railing is a popular solution for our customers that wish to prevent objects, animals, people, or debris from being able to pass through the bottom area under the rail.

Nylon is a very high tensile strength material to use for netting construction, which makes the custom mesh from Gourock a really great selection for railing nets and deck containment netting. We offer a variety of different twine thicknesses and mesh sizes, allowing you to make a specific choice based on your preferences for appearance, expected abrasion, object-blocking capability, and weight. For instance, there are different mesh sizes available ranging from 3/4″ up to 4″ – and the best mesh size choice is based on your particular expectations of what the netting is supposed to block. And then for the different mesh sizes, there are twine thicknesses ranging from thin to thick – so if you need a lightweight or heavyweight finished product there are attractive options to consider. We specialize in the 100% Made in USA DuPont® Type 66-728 twisted-knotted nylon protective netting – and our Online Custom Netting Calculator allows for convenient ordering of any sizing that you want to be working with for your railing protective net project.

Generally speaking, the square mesh pattern has historically been the best selection for railing nets – due to its very straightforward 90º grid pattern and nice level fit. In addition, the majority of nets that we ship out for railing netting purposes have a 5/16″ Dacron® rope bordering sewn-in around the perimeter of the mesh. This rope bordering increases strength and durability around the perimeter of the netting panel, and also amplifies the ease-of-use while working with the protective nets.

The following photos represent some good examples of nets that we have supplied to our customers that required them for railing netting installations. These photos show the 1-3/4″ square mesh twisted-knotted nylon netting, with 5/16″ rope bordering sewn-in around the edges. As you can see, there are different approaches that can be taken to hang and install the mesh within the railing space – including clamping, hooking, strapping, and weaving. The nylon materials from Gourock are very strong and durable, proving to be a trusted netting product for getting a great fit, appearance, and function for your railing and deck/patio netting needs.

Many thanks again to our valued custom netting customers! We appreciate your business very much and it is our pleasure to assist you with your netting solution needs!
